Some rooms are pleasant places to sleep. The Master Suite at Eleven Gables is something different.
It occupies the entire north wing of our 1867 Carpenter’s Gothic inn — three outside walls, Geneva Lake visible from both the bedroom and the original mirrored dressing room, and a privacy that’s increasingly difficult to find at any price. This corner of the inn has been welcoming guests since the Gilded Age, when Lake Geneva was the summer address of Chicago’s most prominent families, and the building’s bones reflect that era’s understanding of what a proper retreat required: generous proportions, natural light from multiple directions, and a careful separation from the ordinary world outside.
The mirrored dressing room is a genuine period detail, not a renovation affectation. The lake view through its windows frames Geneva Lake the way the original owners intended — as a presence rather than a backdrop, something you wake up alongside rather than something you glimpse on the way to breakfast.
The Master Suite includes private bath and air conditioning. It is the quietest room in the house, positioned at the inn’s north corner away from the street and from other guest rooms.
A note on pets: dogs are genuinely welcome at Eleven Gables — we’ve built out accommodations and policies specifically to make traveling with your dog easier. But the Master Suite is reserved for couples looking for an uninterrupted retreat. If you’re traveling with a dog, we’ll put you somewhere equally good.
