Insider's Guide to Enjoying Lake Geneva

Frequenty asked questions about Eleven Gables

An Insider’s Guide to Geneva Lake

Everything you’re wondering about — answered honestly, from someone who lives here

When is the best time to visit?

If you have flexibility, come mid-week — Monday through Thursday — particularly in summer. Weekends bring crowds and traffic that can work against the peaceful experience most guests are looking for. September is our personal favorite month: the lake water is still warm, often reaching the mid-80s, the summer rush has gone home, and the light turns golden in a way that’s hard to describe until you’ve seen it yourself.

Where exactly are you located?

We’re three blocks from the Riviera in a quiet residential neighborhood — close enough to walk to downtown, far enough to feel like you’ve left it behind. It’s a genuinely lovely spot.

Is there pier access?

Yes. Eleven Gables has a private pier where guests can swim, relax, and watch the lake go by. The water here is remarkably clear — visibility can reach 20 feet on a calm day, which makes it surprisingly easy to watch the aquatic life below. It never gets old.

Can I bring my kayak or paddleboard?

Absolutely. We welcome non-motorized watercraft — kayaks, SUPs, floaties, whatever gets you on the water. We’ve built a ramp with steps specifically for easy launching. The one limitation: we can’t accommodate boat parking at the pier, so motorized boats will need to stay elsewhere.

Are dogs welcome?

They are, and genuinely so. Dogs can swim off the pier using the same ramp — it was partly designed with them in mind. We do ask that you let us know in advance that you’re bringing a dog, including the breed, as we have some insurance and room-specific considerations to sort out. Cats, unfortunately, are not able to join us.

What about meals?

We don’t serve food, but Lake Geneva has no shortage of excellent restaurants, and we’re happy to point you in the right direction based on what you’re in the mood for. Just ask.

How do I make sure my stay is everything I’m hoping for?

Tell us a little about why you’re coming. Anniversary? Quiet getaway? Came for the kayaking? The more we know in advance, the better we can prepare. If you or your pet need ground-floor accommodations without stairs, let us know that too — we want to get it right before you arrive.

What are your policies?

Eleven Gables has six rooms and a cottage — it’s an intimate place, and we keep it that way intentionally. We ask for a two-night minimum stay, advance notice if you’re bringing a dog, and a commitment to the quiet, peaceful atmosphere that our guests come here for. Firearms and weapons are not permitted on the property, with the exception of law enforcement.

How does booking work?

Similar to how you might book on Airbnb — you submit a reservation request, and we confirm it. Your reservation isn’t final until you hear from us directly. Given that we only have a handful of rooms, this keeps everything clean and prevents double-booking.

Who are you, exactly?

We’re innkeepers who love this lake and love sharing it. Eleven Gables attracts guests who value tranquility over spectacle — people who want to slow down, breathe some good air, and remember what a real vacation feels like. If that sounds like you, we’d love to have you.
